Expanding Socket Rock Anchor

The anchor's core function is to provide a reliable, high-tensile-strength anchoring point in rock where traditional earth anchors cannot be used. It works on a simple but effective mechanical principle:

Expanding Socket Design: The anchor features a socket made of malleable or ductile iron. As the rod is turned during installation, this socket expands outward, wedging tightly against the solid walls of the rock hole.

Self-Tightening Action: The design creates a self-energizing grip. Once expanded, any increased pulling force on the guy rod causes the anchor to wedge even tighter against the rock.

Tripleye Rod: The anchor utilizes a drop-forged "Tripleye" rod. This feature allows the rod to accommodate up to three separate guy strands, providing flexibility in guying configurations.

Corrosion Resistance: The entire assembly is hot-dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153 standards, ensuring long-term durability against rust and corrosion in outdoor environments.

This product is specifically engineered for:

Utility Guy Anchoring: Securing guy lines for utility poles, transmission towers, and communication structures in rocky terrain.

Infrastructure Support: Providing anchor points for signage, lighting masts, or other structures where foundations must be placed in solid rock.

The installation process is described as quick and simple:

Drill: A hole with a diameter of 2.5 inches (¼ inch larger than the unexpanded anchor) is drilled into the rock using hand or power drilling equipment.

Insert: The anchor assembly is dropped into the drilled hole.

Expand: A bar is inserted through the large eye of the Tripleye rod. The rod is then turned, which causes the socket to expand and wedge firmly against the sides of the rock hole.

Set: The anchor is properly set when it is firmly expanded.

Drop Forging: The Tripleye rod is created using a drop-forging process. This involves heating a steel bar and hammering it into a die to form the shape. This process aligns the grain structure of the metal, making the rod exceptionally strong and resistant to fatigue at the critical eye connection points.

Casting: The expanding socket components are manufactured by casting, using malleable or ductile iron. These materials are chosen for their strength, toughness, and ability to withstand the wedging forces without fracturing.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing: After the metal components are formed, they are assembled and then undergo hot-dip galvanizing. This process involves cleaning the steel and immersing it in a bath of molten zinc, creating a metallurgically bonded coating that provides long-term, maintenance-free corrosion protection, which is critical for buried or exposed outdoor applications.

Assembly & Quality Control: The individual components are assembled, and the final product is inspected and packaged for distribution. The ultimate strength rating is verified through rigorous testing to ensure it meets the 36,000 lb. specification.
